GMS (glycerol monostearate) is a member of a family of glycerol ester based migratory
additives that include GMO (glycerol monooleate), GML (glycerol
monolaurate), and GTS (glycerol tristearate). Although originally used as food ingredients,
glycerol esters find applications in polymers as anti-stats, anti-fogs,
process aids and mold release agents. Glycerol esters are also
widely used as an aging modifier (cell stabilizer) in the production of
polyethylene foam. Generally incorporated into a polymer by melt
mixing, they can also be diluted with solvents and applied topically.
